My hens just started laying. One is laying good size eggs, the others are kind of small. Also only getting 2 eggs total a day from 5 hens. Is this fairly normal or should I be doing something to increase size and/or production?

When a pullet begins to enter her laying cycle the eggs will naturally start off small and often times irregular. This is perfectly normal. As your pullets mature their eggs will grow larger and they will be more frequent. It depends upon the breed and particular hen, but most do not lay 7 days a week. They will take a day off here and there.

It's all normal. :) congratulations on your first eggs.

Thanks :) i have 3 RIR and 2 Plymouth Rocks. Specifically selected for egg laying and cold weather tolerance

It can take up to a month or so before things get smoothed out and you see the 'normal' production.
Egg size increase can take much longer in my experience.
