Hatching
Hi all!
I've been visiting backyard chickens for years to get advice on my flock. I've never joined, because every question I've had to this point has been answered by another member's thread. I finally decided it's time to join in the fun!
I have a small flock of six hens: one Rhode Island Red, two leghorns, and three Ameraucanas. We also have 16 Pearl guineas of various ages. Three of my hens have been with me for over a year, and I recently added three more, which my old girls are not yet excited about at all. Today was my first experiment with allowing my guineas to free range, and it did not go well. One of my males was killed in a raccoon trap and his mate paced the roof calling out to him into the dark for hours. I feel so badly for her
Guineas are a new experience for me, but I was raised on a dairy farm and have been around chickens my whole life. I love to watch them run and interact! The guineas are especially odd and entertain me for hours
I'm excited to finally get in on the fun at BYC and I can't wait to make new friends and share experiences and knowledge.
