After one of my neighbors dogs got out I was left with 1 older hen, she's in front of a mirror but she still seems to be acting off, how to I keep her sane until the others get here?

Sorry to hear about the dogs...I've never heard of keeping a mirror with a single quail before...It would be interesting to hear the pros/cons about that.

If it's only for a few days, I wouldn't be too worried about your hen. Provide enough enriching distractions to keep her attention, such as dust bathing material and quail-friendly greens and treats. At best, she may pace a bit more than normal and call loudly and/or frequently. This is quite normal since the hen will be attempting to establish communication with a nearby (but nonexistent) quail flock.

Hope that you don't have to wait too long!

Sorry about your loss. Make sure to fortify your quail enclosure before the new quail arrive so you don't have to go through this again. The mirror is a good short term solution. Be careful introducing new quail, she may try to kill the intruders. If you can house them separately but so she can see them for a few weeks before putting them in their permanent home she will be more likely to accept them. Also make sure the new quail are the same size. If you put chicks in with her she will surely kill them.
