Lethargic Duck Keeps Sleeping and is Unresponsive

Yes , they did molt this year after the hatching in July and our days start getting shorter at the beginning of september and now they only get about 8 hours a day of light.. poor darlings.

So I guess it has everything to do with that. I am way up in northern mid-western Quebec. Close to James Bay actually so our days are very short but starting tomorrow they will begin to lengthen again.

Thank you for putting me at ease.. I was worried. :)

I do hope my runners will do well this winter. Also I have 2 mini call ducks and they are just babies. About 7 -8 months old. I keep their pens really insulated with bales of straw and hay all around the walls and on the roof and they have a thick carpet of fresh, dry straw inside. The water containers make a coating of ice however inside the pens. Last year was really horrible.. A pail of water would freeze completely in a matter of hours. It was sooooooo cold last year, and I did not lose any to the cold.

I wonder if my runners and call ducks will do ok? And my muscovy...

I keep a close eye on them and at the first sign that they are cold, I will be setting up a heater in the pens.

Supposed to have a wonderfully mild winter and so far it is. :)
