Hi guys. I think I might have just made a horrible newbie mistake. I've got 8 ducks, all juvies - one pekin, one cayuga, 6 mallards. A friend told me they'd love veggies from the garden, so I brought some cut up carrots and green beans with me. The ducks ignored the carrots, but seemed to like the green beans. Between 8 ducks they wasted most of them but probably all of them ate a little.
Now I see there's a poison in fresh green beans??? Are my guys going to be ok? Is there something I should do for them???

help....

Not sure what you mean about poison in fresh green beans. There's nothing wrong with giving ducks green beans as long as they're chopped into pieces small enough that they don't choke on them. I give ours trimming from fresh green beans when I'm using the beans for meals, and I'm sure many others do as well. Are you saying there was some sort of pesticide on them?

Thanks for responding. No, there's no pesticides, my garden is organic. I read on the Ultimate list of duck treats here on BYC that "Beans- ?
Green beans, Lima Beans, black beans, Pinto beans, etc. They MUST be cooked and soft (preferably overcooked.) Uncooked beans contain a poison called hemaglutin toxic to birds. Beans have a good amount of protein but also have a higher amount of carbs, so beans should be a limited treat. "

I'm thinking now that green beans maybe shouldn't have been lumped in with the rest of them. I know not to feed them uncooked beans (like kidney and pinto).

Ducks look fine ...
