1st pic - two cockerels
2nd pic - one cockerel (in front) and one pullet (smaller, in back)I can't believe it, but explains why the 3 have have been fighting I need to only have 1 rooster right?
The suggested rooster/hen ratio is 1:10-12+. Less than that and it's pretty rough on the ladies, resulting in reduced egg production due to stress. If you are wanting to keep a roo, I'd suggest getting at the very least 7 more pullets or hens, to help keep any one hen from receiving too much of his attention.
I'm on the fence about having chicks, if we do I would sell them and I'm not sure how difficult that is. I got my chicks at a few days old, is that typical? I would sell them after a few days of hatching. How long does it take an egg to hatch? diff that is.Technically, you don't need a rooster at all. Hens will lay eggs whether a male is present or not. The only reason you would need to have a rooster is if you want fertile eggs for hatching.
Chicken eggs take 21 days to hatch.
How easy the chicks are to sell really varies. In your case, your birds look like mixed breeds, so quite honestly, probably not a great demand for the chicks. Most folks either want "red" layers (Rhode Island Red or RIR cross), show quality purebreds, something with funky feathering (like Polish or Cochins), or something that lays pretty eggs, such as Marans or Easter Eggers. Most folks also greatly prefer sexed pullets. So to be quite honest.... No, I rather doubt there'd be much of any demand for the chicks, unless they were practically free.
