I have a mixed flock of 16 girls (Jersey Giants, Langshans, Welsummers, SG Dorkings, Dominiques, Buff Orpingtons, Amauricanas) The 3 Amauricanas are established layers of olive & blue eggs. All the other girls are 21 weeks old and are not laying yet except..............for the last week I have been getting a very tiny brown egg almost every day. This egg is really not much bigger than a quail egg. Silver Grey Dorkings lay a white or cream egg so I don't think it is one of them. Looking at my girls, going by the color of their combs and my crude attempts at trying to measure the space between their pelvic bones, The Dorkings, Jersey Giants, Langshans,& Buff Orpingtons all still have pale combs.
The Dominiques are by far the smallest of the chickens as far as size goes which really doesn't have anything to do with the size of the egg.
By the way, I do have 4 roosters but they are all juveniles (21 weeks) as well and haven't matured enough to quite figure the mating thing out yet so I can't go by who the roosters are mating with. My big rooster (also known as Mean Old B******, just went to freezer camp because he flogged me one time too many. Maybe I should have kept him around a little longer but it just wasn't worth it.
Olive egg, light blue egg, lt brown egg
I think it is either one of the Welsummer girls or one of the Dominiques. Their combs are nice and red. Welsummers are supposed to lay a darker brown egg but that may not be true since these are hatchery stock. These eggs are a light brown. This is my first time with these breeds. Would like to get the opinions of someone with more experience.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!
