Hello- I am a new member of this site. I was wondering if there is anyone who knows if ordinances are going to be changing or up for discussion to change in unincorporated Kane County Illinois for keeping chickens. Are any groups working on facilitating change in this county? In speaking with the zoning personal, their chicken keeping ordinances have not been updated since 1998. I personally feel they are out of date especially when ordinances in cities are less stringent. If anyone has any feedback about this topic- that would be awesome. Thanks.

What are the rules now. ??? and do they apply to peeps having agricultural land as well. Remember that it is just easier for the Local Government Officials to say NO.

According to Kane county- they do not recognize a chicken coop as a structure. It has to be a shed and a permanent structure. If your zoned residential then you need 1 acre and have the chickens 100 feet from the neighbors homes. The "shed" can not be seen from the road. If the property is zoned farm- the acres rule doesn't apply. They only enforce this to person who have neighbors who call them. Everyone else can do whatever they want.

I suggest you talk to your neighbors and see if they are OK with you having chickens. If you don't have 1 acre of land, there is no way you can make it larger. ?????????? no other ideas

If your neighbors are %^#@%^*&^, then you are out of luck. %^#@%^*&^ = snobbish

I'm searching out people or groups that are actively trying to change the ordinance in this area and hoping to participate in that process. If many of the suburban areas and Chicago have started allowing chickens and even roosters (in Chicago) then this oridinance personally appears to me- to need to be updated and changed.

I would love to be a part of advocating for reasonable ordinances for chicken keeping.
