I have had only one chick hatch, I just woke up and when I saw it it was laying down unable to stand back up, I set it up but it can't stand upright, he was so active yesterday. But I never saw him eat or drink. Whats wrong???

is the chick a chicken or a quail chick? how old is he? where are you keeping him? you might try feeding him egg if its not a injury, i cant think of anything that could be causeing that... is there any visible injurys?

It's a coturnux quail, he is twenty hours old, he was running around chirping like crazy yesterday, but now he keeps falling to one side. He got a little better since I last said.

No visible injuries, he Doe seem to know what food is, and definitely doesn't know what water is.

wierd....you can try dipping his beak gently in water (not up to his nose) or hand watering him. I use a Q-tip for this. don't know what to do about the food... I have never had to force feed a chicken/quail.

I read that you should use a boiled egg yolk, because the yellow catches there eye. He pecked at the food a little, its turkey starter,. So wet a q-tip and stick it up to his beak?

there's a pic, his legs look fine.

It is very important that he knows how to drink water before he starts chowing down.

Egg yolk is fed to newly hatched chicks because of the highly digestible nutrients it contains. Do not worry about your chick eating much until after it is 48 hours old. Before that they are living on the egg yolk that they hatched with.
