Please help my turkey can't walk!

Bronze, ****. Leg problems with them are very common, they are bred to grow fast and sometimes the bones can't keep up.
You need to be feeding a high protein diet. You also can add water soluble vitamins and electrolytes to help. Its not a cure though. There isn't much can be done that is truly effective.

I have him on vitamins and I have been told the lower the protein the better because they do grow so fast. I know the bronze are known for leg problems but they are the biggest sweethearts. I am trying to turn him around and I have a wonderful vet working with me, just looking for basically someone who has experienced this and has pulled them through it

I have white turkeys as well. They are the broad breasted white. I noticed recently that my tom is having a hard time walking and that his joints in his legs are clicking. I know that broad breast white have issues like that due to the too-fast weight gain because of industrial modification. I am a first time turkey raiser and did not know about the health issue of this breed before I got them as chicks. If I have known I would have gotten a heritage breed. After researching I found out that they can get so heavy so quickly that there legs cannot support them and they can have issues with joint pain, arthritis, and can eventually break their legs. Also prone to heart disease. I am really hoping that won't happen to my tom. He has become a pet and it makes me sad to think he is in pain.
