I have had backyard chickens for over a year now... learning and growing as I go. Started out with 5, 3 RI and 2 Barred Rock. They were free-range until something got one of my RI. So my husband and I built a very large area for them on the back of our property. I have 7 13 weeks old. 2 black-sex links and 5 golden sex-links (3 of the gold ones will go to my daughter's once they're old enough to add to her flock.

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!

Love the size of your run! I bet they love it! It may be smaller than being able to free range, but it is so much safer.

Nice run for them, some real tree branches for roosts, would keep them busy. Also I hear the' chicken swings,' are getting very popular and some birds really love them.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

Always nice to see another Floridian around

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Sex Links are egg laying machines. I've raised both varieties over the years and the Black Sex Links are my personal favorites as they are so friendly and such persistant layers in really cold weather (not a problem that you have in Florida).) Your coop/run is beautiful, but if you have predators in your area, I would strongly suggest replacing either covering or replacing that chicken wire with hardware cloth as there are just too many predators that can tear through chicken wire, or squeeze through the openings in the mesh. It will add quite a bit of expense to your coop/run, but it will be cheaper than replacing your flock; not to mention the peace of mind it will give you knowing your flock is safe. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/07/11-tips-for-predator-proofing-chickens.html on predator proofing your flock. Also, if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your sex links.

A swing was added already, a hanging cabbage (which didn't last long).... and some large tree stumps for climbing

. :D
