Hello all! I was recently given a new hatched chick (7 hours old!) out of nowhere. I love to research so I caught myself up, set up a brooder, got my chick feed and am now on week two with my chick, Nugget.

This site has been my main go to for info, so I look forward to the time I'll spend in here learning. :)

Thank you! I was told it was a bantam. It was hatched from a green egg, so an Easter egger Bantam? Definitely a spoiled little bugger, and very social.

I just recently posted an odd behaviour with her walking/standing.

Only one chick? You can give it a small mirror so it thinks it has a buddy. Also a small stuffed toy to cuddle up with. If you are only going to have the one - it should bond closely with you and would make a great house chicken. You may want to check out the thread "people with house chickens."

Nugget sure is a cute little thing, glad you are enjoying her! If you haven't already, check out the Learning Center...there's a ton of good info there. And of course, feel free to ask questions (or post more Nugget pictures).

The house chicken thread Drumstick diva mentioned is a fun read, you might enjoy that.

Nice to have you & Nugget here!

Drumstick, yep just the one. It was a very unexpected thing. I was just handed a newly hatched chick and bam, I had a chicken. I spend A LOT of time with her to balance out that she doesn't have a flock, and I may consider getting her a friend but not right away as I'm still learning.

She's definitely a house chicken, I'll check out those links, Thanks! BYC has already been extremely helpful for me
