I noticed today that my peacock either lost his toenail or the tip of his toe. I haven't been able to catch him yet to see which but I was curious if anyone else has experienced this? Is it normal(or common I guess) for them to just lose a toenail? I have no idea how it could have happened, he is completely free range so who knows what he got into. He doesn't seem bothered by it though...

Ok, thank you! It does look like it was just his toenail. He had a mystery limp a couple months ago that resolved after I had him penned up for a couple weeks. I wonder if he just hurt his toe and the toenail just finally fell off...

I have a female peachick that lost the tip of her toe. It doubt it was due to the perch. I keep my peachicks in a cage that is off of the ground and it has a small mesh floor. The dog is just barely able to reach the floor and we think the dog might have somehow gotten the peachick's toe. I am not exactly sure what happened because I was gone for a few days and my parents were taking care of the peachicks and when I came home I noticed the tip of my peachick's toe was covered in dried blood and the nail was missing. The nail has not grown back and I don't think it ever will, but the toe is now very nicely healed and it doesn't seem to bother the little peahen at all.

Yeah, not likely to freeze off in Florida.
