I'm starting off with 50 baby chicks. Mostly black star but also got araucanas anconas a white silky and some buff orpingtons. Living way high up in the rocky mountains. I already got a few problems. Had two of what I thought were my healthiest female black stars die on me in the past few day. Dont know what happened. Also just had a araucana chick break a wing.

Sorry you have already had issues with a few of your chicks. I hope the rest remain healthy. Should you experience additional problems or concerns with their health and well-being, you might want to consider posting on this forum: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures. There are many people on BYC with a lot of knowledge that might be able to help you figure out what is going on.

Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of two of your Black Stars. I raised Black Sex Links (Black Stars) for years and mine have always been very hardy and friendly, egg laying machines. Of all the breeds and hybrids that I have raised, my Black Stars have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large, brown eggs per hen per year with double yolks not being uncommon. Sometimes though a chicken seemingly dies for no reason and we never really know why. Hopefully all the rest will reach productive adulthood. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with the remainder of your chicks.

I'm sorry for your losses and the broken wing. Sometimes, no matter how hard we work to keep them healthy, things happen.

I wish you lots of luck with the rest of your flock. If you have questions, always feel free to ask.

Thanks for joining us!
