This is my first time hatching and I really need help. Set 17 eggs on 8/9 in a still air hova-bator with turner. Followed direction that came with it in regards to temp/humidity. Lockdown was 8/27, 14 eggs looked viable at that point. Only 2 peeps have hatched, starting yesterday, no more pips. The one is 16 hrs old, doing great. The other is 20 hrs and can't stand. Has been on back or side since last night. I panicked and opened the incubator this morning long enough to place this chick on a square of fabric and add more water to up the humidity. He stood for a second and then fell over again. I am so upset over the whole thing I can't even look in the incubator.
What do I do at this point for the rest of the eggs?
What do I do for the peep on his back?
Thank you for any help. I am sick over this.

Hi there, sorry about your sick chick and congrats on the healthy one.

Does the chick try to stand and fall over or does it just look weak? Can you see anything wrong with it's legs?

It's trying to pedal w its legs. If I stand it up it falls back over almost immediately. Can't see anything wrong w the legs but I'm afraid to open the brooder again to really examine him

Thank you for responding.

If your humidity is high enough, and if your incubator recovers quickly, you can take him out for a little bit. You might want to try a little electrolyte water with a tiny bit of sugar mixed in to see if that helps, or a drop of baby vitamins - the kind without iron.

Do you hear any peeping from the other eggs? How may do you have left?

Thank you. I'll try this. Earlier, I opened it long enough to make a fabric nest in the one corner and prop him up in it. It was working at the time.
12 eggs left, no sounds from them. I can only see into 3 of them very well because the other 9 are easter eggers. There did look to be a fully developed chick in one though.

Both chicks are doing great!. Thank you for the electrolyte suggestion - I keep save-a-chick on hand but had forgotten about it. He perked up immediately but was still having trouble. One leg kept sliding out and he'd fall over, I tried to brace his legs together with a band-aid but gave up. Eventually I stuck them in the brooder and just hoped for the best. That probably sounds horrible, but I have a newborn baby as well and can only handle so much. Anyway, being in the deep wood chips evidently gave him the support he needed and now he's bouncing around like nothing was wrong.

Only a sour note, I gave the remaining eggs another two days and then called it. When I disposed of them tonight, I opened them up and nearly every one had a fully developed chick inside with the yolk un-absorbed. My first hatch, it's really depressing.

They were eggs from my hens. I have a beautiful cochin rooster that lives with easter egger ladies. Both of the chicks have feathered feet! I've read that my humidity might have been too high?
