Some of you may have read my postings about the turkeys I "rescued" this summer. I absolutely have fallen in love with the 4 toms and 5 hens since bringing them to my place!
Everything has been going fine, in spite of being diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple weeks ago. I had decided it wouldn't get me down, after all, the docs say exercise and movement is the best thing for it. Well, unfortunately I woke up with extreme back pain Friday morning. I finally went to the ER Sunday morning. The first shot of pain meds did nothing to alleviate my pain. Even while laying flat, it's almost unbearable. The second shot of a different pain medication along with a percoset tablet had me feeling better, but the car ride home was still excruciating. They sent me home with strong pain meds that are helping a little, but I can hardly handle using the bathroom, showering or dressing.
In light of all this, I have decided to find new homes for as many of my outdoor animals as possible. I've put ads on craigslist and contacted my local shelter, and thought I'd try here. Most of my chickens will probably be gone this weekend, but I haven't had much interest in the turkeys. I'd like to get a little something for them, especially considering all the time and work it took to capture/rescue them.
If you or anyone you know is interested, please message me or post a reply. As winter creeps ever closer, this becomes a more urgent situation. Thanks

So sorry, I thought I had said where we live. Saint Joe, IN, we're about 40 min. northeast of Ft. Wayne, 10 min. West of Hicksville, OH, 15-20 min. east of Auburn, IN

I stay in oak Grove Ky and that makes us about 61/2 hours away. I would love to get your turkeys but it's too far to drive. I to have a condition that gives me a hard time caring for my flock but taking care of them gives me a reason to get up in the morning and get moving. If I could sit that long to drive I would help you since I do understand what you are going through.
Good luck

Thank you. This decision wasn't easy to make. It's not just because of my fibromyalgia and back issues, but I just want to take a little break from so many responsibilities. My sons are older now and it's difficult to care for all my farm animals along with my 6 dogs. Id also like to save some extra money up for any unforeseen circumstances.

Have you tried posting the turkeys as Thanksgiving turkeys. If they will be large enough by the Sunday before Thanksgiving, I'm almost sure there will be people interested. There are people in the Northern section of Indiana that know the processors up your way. The processors might know people interested in turkeys too.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through! I will share the link to this on our indiana thread. If I was closer they would sure be coming home with me, I adore my turkeys!
Ditto. I don't have the yard for all nine, but I'm looking for a tom, if someone can split the order. I'd likely have to make some room by downsizing myself, but I love turkeys :D
