my baby duck pipped around 1am-3am and its now 3pm and nothing has changed, is this normal? I peeled away a small piece of the shell so he could breathe a little better, I hope by doing this I didn't put him in harm.

Ducklings typically take a couple days to hatch, so yes this was normal. Between each stage of hatching (internal pip, first little external pip hole, and then cracking around the shell to get out) they tend to rest up to 24 hours. So, just don't do anymore helping, keep your humidity up so the membrane doesn't dry out, and let the little one finish hatching on it's own. They don't come out until they are ready, if you help them hatch too early it can be catastrophic for the duckling. So, just sit on your hands. ;)

Keep us updated, ok? Has it made any more progress since you posted this?

he's actually starting to chirp more and has started the "zipping" process!

Excellent, sounds like he's right on schedule. No worries! :)
