No, I don't think so, but I think I need to know what you mean by "near." PA is a big mining state, but I don't think there's any mining at all within at least a range of several miles from us.

I would call the extension service if you have one, or you may need to go with a private water testing company. We have a well, so those guys test for us.
iamcuriositycat found there was something leaching from the hose she used for her ducks - it kept them from laying eggs. Took her months to figure that one out. So, yes, I would be cautious and have the water tested.
This has got me thinking about my yard and all the "what if's" that could happend to any of us!
