Please help if you can with duck's cause of death - necropsy photos included

Hey JadeComputerGirl, what about grass hay for the nest box? I dnt know if you keep your ducks in the house or out in a coop, but I use grass hay, works great. I always have it on hand because thats what my one horse, that can still eat hay, eats.

Thanks so much, @Honey Maid . We still haven't decided on that yet. We're thinking of going back to some very long straw. Just haven't been able to make a decision yet since it's not nesting time.

I don't think we've communicated before, so welcome to BYC!!!

I would call the extension service if you have one, or you may need to go with a private water testing company. We have a well, so those guys test for us.

iamcuriositycat found there was something leaching from the hose she used for her ducks - it kept them from laying eggs. Took her months to figure that one out. So, yes, I would be cautious and have the water tested.

Mercy.

I just read that cigarettes are one of the most common reasons for exposure, also the most significant contributors to the dietary cadmium exposure are grains, vegetables, and starchy roots and tubers.
This has got me thinking about my yard and all the "what if's" that could happend to any of us!
