My broody chicken is incubating duck eggs again!

I have a mixed breed white chicken that loves being an incubator.  Since I do not have a rooster, she is getting my fertile Indian Runner eggs to incubate... she has hatched four ducklings for me prior and this is the second batch.

One duckling pipped the air sac this morning, is peeping and tapping and has finally cracked the egg shell so he/she is inside in the incubator to complete the hatching task since I am not sure what momma hen would do with a duckling on the second tier of our laying boxes.

Another of my hens disappeared a few days ago (same mixed breed - white with black spots) and luckily I found her in the garden under my hostas with six of her eggs.  Sadly, I had to break it to her that these are not viable and she pecked at my hand, causing an egg to explode... there is nothing like the pop and stink of one of Mother Nature's stinkbombs.:barnie

She is back in the coop safely, the five other "time bombs" are packed in the garbage and I am in need of a shower and something strong to put on my nose to get the rotten egg stink out of it.

Yes, rotting things do stink....I think it's Nature's way to lure flies, lol, so that the maggots can help with decomposition.

By the way, do the ducklings imprint on the broody hen and follow her around for the rest of her life?
