I have a chick who was very skinny (she turned out to have worms despite apparently being wormed before being sold!) she was always a good eater but recently her crop has been regularly empty. She is always following me for food, so I have been putting down mash for them which she devours, but it appears she won't eat normal pellets unless they have water added, corm etc is fine..... Any ideas? Is she just a fussy eater?!

She may still have worms. I am dealing with that myself in one of my flocks-so, I am educating myself on the issue.

Once they have been treated for worms, this needs to be done again in 7 days. Piperazine only treats roundworm. So, it's best to treat with safeguard or ivermectin. Follow up treatment is most imperative.

There is a section in BYC all about worming.

Aside from the possible worms, look at her beak carefully. Does she have scissor beak? Good luck with your chick. Please keep us posted.

Thank you. She doesn't appear to have scissor beak. Thank you for that info though. She is picking up corn and around the garden but refuses to eat pellets!
She is still growing so I'm wondering if she will fill out later as having worms and growing wouldn't have helped I suppose! She is well in herself which is a good thing.
The flubenvet instructions say repeat 3 weeks later for a week which is what I will do. Hopefully she will feel better and start eating pellets soon!
