I'm new to raising chickens and this is my first time having a serious problem. I have 8 sex linked chickens that are 2 years old. My favorite hen, Rosie, has had a droopy wing for about the past 2 weeks. I never thought it could be broken because she was still flying up to the roost every night. I have also noticed for the past 3 days or so her butt pulsates constantly. Today when I was in the coop I noticed her not on the roost by the rest of the hens. I found this very unusual and examined her. She seemed OK except that I could hear her breathing deeply. She also has not been eating or drinking. I want to separate her from the flock but am going on vacation for the next 3 days. Any advice?

if she acts sick from a possible virus of some sorts separate her IMMEDIATLY or you run the risk of infecting the entire flock. after separation clean the area she was in to reduce the risk of infecting any other bird that could enter the infected area.

A vet is always the best bet when there's sickness, but not alway affordable. It sounds like it could be a respiratory infection; possibly antibiotics would help. Maybe another group member will recognize the symptoms and be able to give you a more definite answer as to what is wrong. Good luck.

I use 12.5% Dimethox Concentrate (Sulfadimethoxine) on my farm. it is used for goats, sheeps, chicken, turkeys, ducks, ect. my main use is for my goats but works with chicks also. use 1fl oz / 2 gal. water. this can be used both as a prevenitive measure and a treatment

I separated her from the flock this morning. She doesn't have any visible parasites and is very lethargic. She continues to pulsate her butt and their is no sign of an egg coming. The wheezing noise has gotten worse and I don't know what to do.
