I have been thinking I would like to use some deck/porch paint inside my coop on wood pieces to help with clean up. Our coop is a large stall in a horse barn. Its quite large and I am having difficulty with staining on the wood parts ( wall studs behind the roost, top of the nesting boxes- although we are going to be putting something up to keep them from roosting up there, the wood frame on the dropping pans and the landings on our nesting boxes). Our chickens free range during the day. My question is if I paint how long do I need to keep the chickens out of the coop? We have a huge predator problem so they can not be left out over night but we do have the rest of the barn. Its not a large barn so they would be about 15- 20ft away from the painted coop in the furthest stall. Its not a lot of wood. We used this particular paint on the floor in our rabbit house and works well but it was long before the rabbits moved in.

As long as the area is ventilated I don't think it will cause a problem, as long as the paint is dry.

If your coop is well ventelated it should dry. It is safe to let the chickens back in when the paint is dry and their is not a strong smell of paint. I use deck paint for my wood and it works just fine.

Hope this helped!
