Hey everyone!! I raised 20 babies from 3 days old to almost 14 weeks old and they are beautiful hens(8 RIR, 7 nlack australorp, and 5 cuckoo marans). Last weekend, I purchased 5 chickens from a lady ( americauna is the only one I can remember what it is), so I have 4 others I dont know what they are. My americauna started having eye drainage that was clear and bubbly like and clear nasal drainage. She still ate and dranked but she started a gurgly sound and breathing only through her mouth. I went to the feed and supply store and bought duramycin power for their water which I have all of them for a week. My americauna showed no sign of improving. I called the feed store and asked if they sold tylan 50 ( I read from byc that it helped their chickens that showed same signs). The girl which sold me the duramycin (very knowledgeable and said if that didnt work by friday(yesterday) to come back and she would give me something else but I couldnt remember the name of it, so anyway the girl I spoke to yesterday said she wouldn't be in until the afternoon and that she had no idea what tylan was or if they had it. So I went to tractor supply and bought syringes and tylan 50 and after getting over my fear of giving my chicken a shot, I have her 1/2 of cc of tylan 50 in her breast muscle and she took it well. :) I'm proud to say she seems to be doing awesome this morning as her eye drainage has stopped, she is breathing through her nose and no drainage from her nose as well. I am going to give her another dose today and tomorrow (that will be 3 days dosage). I stopped with the duramycin in the water and instead I puy vetrx in their water which is to prevent and treat respiratory illnesses. It's all natural and has a minty, rosemary type smell. I also picked that up at tsc yesterday. I dont want to count my chickens before they hatch but I feel pleased with the tylan thus far. I hope and pray its doing its job. I wanted to share this information in hopes it helps someone else. Im new to chicken raising and we don't have a chicken vet around here where I live so I'm doing it all on my own and getting my knowledge from byc. Thanks to all for your help. I am going to post another thread in a different category of the 4 chickens that I dont know the breed to see if anyone can help me identify.

The symptoms sounds like she may have mycoplasma (MG, also called CRD.) MG is a chronic respiratory disease that can make carriers of your whole flock. Since you brought those chickens from another place that probably had a carrier, I would not add them to my flock, even if the symptoms disappear. It's one thing to treat a chicken that you already had for a respiratory disease, but to bring a new one in with one to possibly infect your healthy chickens, would not be wise. New chickens should always be quarantined for at least a month just for that reason. I would return the chickens to the previous owner. I'm sure you feel better that she is getting well, but here are a few links to read about chicken diseases such as MG or coryza:
