I just went out into my aviary and one of my budgies had died. I saw it had about 5 little red bugs/mites crawling on it. We never had a problem with mites before. I received a few rescue budgies about 2 weeks ago, they seam in perfect health and I couldn't see any mites. Could these red bugs killed her?

I am sorry to hear of your budgie passing away. It is possible that the mites contributed to her death.
I recognize you from the battery hen thread, your two battery hens had mites, correct?
If so, it is highly possible that the mites travelled on your body after handling the battery hens and were essentially introduced to your budgie aviary. Other things can also bring mites to your birds, (wild birds and I also believe that mice can act as transporters of these annoying bugs).

I had a very bad mite infestation in my flock of chickens about a year ago. It contributed to the death of one of my Rhode Island Red hens.

Mites can easily cause anemia in their hosts, which will lead to death. It is very possible that your budgerigar passed this way.

Please be careful when you visit your different flocks. The same mite that attacks chickens will affect budgies as well as other bird species. Mites are serious and can be very hard to get rid of.
