Here's some great no waste chick feeders I have made for our little leghorns and Australorps. I got the idea for the little ones off a thread on this site and the larger one is a smaller version of our full grown chicken no waste feeders (got this idea from Australian You Tuber -Rob Bob). Have used 40 mm elbow retic joiner pvc pipe and 5litre food grade bucket. Used the kids duplo blocks to give 2cm space at bottom of feeder along with masking tape to hold pipes in place whilst siliconing around them. The little feeders were good for a week or two but got knocked over when empty. So put some rocks in bottom to steady them. Will try out the new white bucket feeder tomorow when silicone has dried.

Those bucket feeders are great! I just love the ones I made for my hens last year. They sure do save a lot of feed.

I made some for my this years babies in April. For the first week or so, I feed them out of a regular tray feeder. Then they move up to this 1 1/2" opening in a 2 gallon bucket. A couple weeks later, I moved them up to a feeder with a 2" opening. Now they are using the 3" opening in a 5 gallon bucket. Since these are English Orps, I may have to make them a 4" opening as they get bigger. At 4 months, they are doing fine with the 3" opening.

Also, at about 2-3 weeks, I put them on horizontal nipples. This help tremendously with water spillage and mess.

Yep, chickens have really poor table manners :)
I hang their water bulb a bit off the ground so they have to stretch to drink from it and this cuts down on most of the mess (especially the pooping).
Have just put the newest feeder into the brooder so will wait to see if they get the hang of it.

Your feeders look great! Good to see them in action. How often do you need to change the water in the nipple water bucket? Do you get much algae growing inside it?
In my older pen, it usually lasts about a week. I have 8 hens and 1 cockerel in that pen. In my pullet pen, I have 5 English Orps, and it lasts over a week. But, with this heat here in Texas, I change them all weekly. Since I use the blue buckets (as opposed to white) I get no algae. I also have the buckets in shade so that helps. When I'm using the 2 gallon one with the babies, it will last a week. That also depends on how many are in there.
