Keeping Away Hawks?

The fishing line didn't work for us but the netting over the backyard did.

We have pecan trees and each year they're loaded with pecans but they aren't any good. They fall to the ground and I worry about the chickens feet getting bruised so I try to rake up as many as possible.

It's not necessarily a pecan problem - even if we had any good pecans the squirrels get them all. The problem is the constant shedding of branches and dead leaves that are constantly falling into the net weighing it down. Follow that up with the heavy rains we've been having since early summer soaking those leaves and you've got a real mess. Our yard is a pretty good size so pushing up the net to roll the junk off is only of limited use.

Thinking wires would allow us to shake the branches and stuff to the ground so we CAN rake it up. But that's problematic too, considering the rain has rendered the ground of our run into slime. Fun, fun...
