Grooming laying habits

As a temporary solution I stacked a munch of miscellaneous items I found lying around in front of the nest boxes so they couldn't get up there. Needless to say they were very unhappy with me, but it's working so far. There's a gap, so the head of the flock figured out how to get up there and she claimed it, but I'll shove something like a shoe box in there tomorrow. One of my girls, a production red mix, is about ready to start laying, so eh en I get to the feed store I'll buy some ceramic eggs or some golf balls and put them I the nest boxes and see if they use or abuse them. Fingers crossed!
