Just out of curiousity, what is everyone doing with the chicks they hatch? :)

I am selling the cockerels on Craigslist. I have 2 friends who want pullets so the pullets will be going to them. If there are a lot of pullets we might keep one. My kids really want to keep the yellow one that was rejected by the hen.

We are going to a pumpkin carving party on Sunday, but you will see pics after that!

I have had the bator running dry for about 9 hours now and the built in hygrometer 22% and my secondary one is below zero...... I ordered a new thermo hygrometer ( a Meade TM005X-M personal weather station) but it may not get here for a few days. Should I keep the bator dry or add a little moisture? When I reach in there it feels more humid than my bed room and there is no visible change in the aircells of the eggs. I just don't want to screw up my eggs on day one.... *sorryI'manoverthinker*

I could not get good pictures. My camera battery was about to die and the adjustments in the dark were difficult. This is a Barnevelder. The Lavendar Ameraucana was about the same. They are on day 16, so I'm going to make sure the other bator is spic and span and dry and running by morning to be a hatcher. I'll add water tomorrow and get the humidity to 65% or so. These are the only 2 that made it from the 15 pretty eggs that were shipped to me. I expect these to hatch on Sunday or Monday, but because this hatch has been a bit off I'll give them until Wednesday.

This is one of the two Cream Brabanters left. They are on day 13. They both look okay and are due to hatch on the 29th but I will give them until Halloween.

Two pumpkin pies (the one on the right is in an oreo cookie crust) and a pumpkin chocolate chip bread. I was going to sprinkle some powdered sugar in Halloween patterns on them.

And, because he was feeling particularly interested in the camera, my Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel, B.B. (the King).

"There's only 10 days until Halloween!" my daughter reminded me today. We just started preparing costumes. We have uncarved pumpkins. And in general I just feel way behind and I have no good reason for it.

@tracyjg I think your surgery is today or coming up this week. I'm wishing you well. Please update when you can. How are your eggs doing?

I'm not great at hatching yet. My first hatch I ran over humidified (70%) for the first three days then balanced it all out and still gotten 60% hatch. I ran dry this time and am down to 4/24. The middle hatch was a 50% hatch rate with a small sponge in to start the incubating process. There are so many other factors that have come up in my hatches though. I think dry for a day will be fine. A small sponge in there will help you understand your hygrometer measurements too.
