Ive been lurking around the forum for a while since the boy said he wanted chickens. We ordered 5 buff orpington pullets and they arrived May 15th. One of the birds has grown a comb that's been turning very bright red and I'm worried we may have ended up with a rooster. The other four ladys have smallish combs and still pink. After reading some other posts I'm thinking maybe she could just be at the point of lay? If that's the case I need to get my butt in gear and start on those nesting boxes I've been putting off. I havent noticed any behavioral changes other than this bird wanting to roost on the 6ft tall privacy fence around our yard rather than in the coop. We cliped her wings to stop that. Just wanted some other opinions.
