Guinea needs a home

I am in Tamworth NH. Last spring a Guinea hen adopted us and has spent the summer happily defending our home against new comers, etc., and keeping our lawn free of pests. Each day when I come home she races out of the woods to greet me. I am worried about how she will make it through the winter and would love her to have a home with friends.. I tracked down the original owner but he is not interested in having her back.
Any ideas?
 
She has chosen you! can you provide her a place that is dry and wind free and encourage her to eat there? High places are what guineas love most- ours roost in a barn that we close off from foot traffic (ie foxes) at night but they have a high ledge to get in and out as they like. More guineas is a good idea too!
 
Yes, agree. If she is a year or older she will find a place to stay at night. Just continue to enjoy her and maybe encourage her to go inside a enclosure when it gets cold.
 
Thanks for your support. Yes, I'd love for her to have friends other than just our dog but I can just imagine my husband's reaction if I mentioned getting more. Thankfully I've read on this site that they are not as fragile as they look. We live surrounded by woods and right now it seems her favorite resting spot is under the plow truck but that will soon be untenable. If I can't find her a home we will do our best by her and let nature take it's course. She provides a smile every time we interact with her. Won't let me touch her yet but will come within a couple of feet.
 
Feed her some dried meal worms and she'll eventually eat out of your hand... But they peck hard! Be sure if u get another one get the opposite sex :). I have 13... They r just finding out their pecking order

The dried meal worms leave her totally un-impressed. Maybe I'll try again after snow comes but for now it's looking like I will be gifting someone a rather large container full.

Be patient. Guineas tend to be wary of a food they are not familiar with. Keep trying and if you can get her to sample them she will eventually realize that she likes them.
 
Thanks, good idea. Another thought, we have a large dog crate not being used. What do you think of me either putting it beside or on our porch raised up somehow, maybe on a couple bales of hay, to give her a shelter from winter wind? Would it need to have the walls and roof insulated somehow or would some nesting hay be enough? Do they keep from pooping where they sleep or should I be prepared to change it out regularly?

They definitely poop all through the night. There is no nighttime control of the bowels (or daytime, for that matter). I'm not sure if she will want to use the kennel or not. Being that she is a flock animal, if she is seeing you as her flock for now then she might be inclined to sleep where you want her to. That is how my lone goose is.
