Sadly, we've had a few chickie problems the last few days. Lisbon's disability (she couldn't walk) was getting worse and she had to be put down. Her hernia had been fine, but she had spraddle leg and wouldn't take to bandages well.

Navy passed away from a sickness she struggled with her whole life. I let her be under her mother in the end, but it was still hard.

And now Parody is unable to walk due to club-foot, his leg was so squished in the egg because he was sideways, he can't straighten it or the toes! Argh. Hopefully he can be like Excelsior and get better despite the odds.

Clarity and Cadence just hatched and joined their mother, Goldie, who finished "weaning" her chicks a few weeks ago. O'Connor, Clovis, Key and Craigen are all broody as well, Key and Craigen just weaned their chicks recently.

So far I'm pretty sure I can tell at least some of the chicks genders apart. Enigma, Heart, Shasta, Adelweiss, Triaria, Ghost, Breath and Paradox are all looking for new homes for free. I have a 113 chickens right now! It's kind of chaos. : )

Princess and her chicks were taking so long going to bed that a couple nights ago I only locked up the Shed, Mud Room and Crate. I forgot and in the middle of the night went out to correct my mistake, only to find that a predator had gotten at least 9 of my chicks/teen-birds. : (

R.I.P. Dare, Rhapsody, Memory, Clarity, Cadence, Bowan, Analia, Alias, Outlaw, and Luminosity

I have the trap set, I'm going to catch that skunk. To kill one or two chicks is one thing, but to kill so many? I can't have a predator like that hanging around. A good skunk only eats eggs. This one is a naughtly fellow. If he wouldn't have threatened to spray me I might have given his booty a kick.
