This morning on Day 21 our chicks started hatching! Two pipped and zipped perfecty and seemed to be doing well. I left them in the bator (99* & 68% humidity) until twenty minutes ago. I moved them to their brooder. One had green poop and then ten minutes later when I walked by it had moved itself to directly below the heat lamp area and was DYING with another fresh green poop. I immediately removed it from the heat & tried to rub it to stimulate it to breath, but it was already too far gone and had the glazed eye look. What happened? Is it the green poop? We've hatched before (years ago) & I don't remember green poop. Now I'm worried about the other that's already hatched.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you lost a chick :hugs The poop looks normal to me for a first post hatch poop. The first few after hatch can be a little odd untill they get eating the chick crumb and their digestive systems get into a normal working order. In the brooder do they have enough room to get out of the heat and cool down? How many hours since they hatched is it now? The first few days after hatch are when chicks are most susceptible to dying. Some times there is no obvious reason as to why and it's just nature.

Update! So the second one (that I put back in the bator) is doing great! Up and around, curious, and lively. :) We also had two others hatch last night and they're doing well too! At least one more has pipped this morning. Haven't seen anymore of that watery neon green poop. Going to move them to the brooder again later today. That was just the weirdest thing yesterday. It had room to get away from the heat, but instead went right under it and died. Sad, but I'm encouraged that the others are doing well! Thank you for the reply! It's hard to watch with excitement and anticipation for three weeks only to see it die like that. Have a great morning!

I'm so pleased for you :celebrate

Sometimes it's just natures way and they just don't make it. It's great to read though that your others are doing well and they look great in the picture. They will be fine in the incubator, I leave mine in untill hatch is done or the incubator looks too full. Sometimes upto 24 hours they are in there.

Good luck with the rest of your eggs and keep us posted!!
