hi every one I am new to chickens, I have 8 Easter eggers they are 3weeks old my question is when can they go out side. right now they are in a pen I made in the house, I have the window open but I have a heat lamp for them to go under if they are cold. it has been in the high 50s at night and 85 during the day. I was going to buy a coop but the prices are high so I am going to make something. I am going to use cattle panel and bend it to make an arch and put chicken wire around it and cover with heavy tarp I got the idea from bloobie . do you really need a building or can I enclose a dog run and attach it do the cattle panel. also any body have Easter eggers? thanks.

Thousands of people have EEs

I don't recommend buying a coop because as you have found, they are overpriced for what you get.

They don't necessarily need a building but they need some shelter from rain and snow. More importantly, they need protection from predators. Chicken wire won't do it.

You're long past due preparing to house them. They can go out now.

Much depends on your climate and upon which continent your located. Where are you?

I feel your pain. When I got chickens again, I had all the materials for the coop but I bought them before I built it. I did have another outbuilding at the time so they weren't homeless.
