So i have a americuana rooster i found almost dead on monday morning. It is about 5months old . . . Was perfectly happy rooster running around with the rest of the flock.

I gave em 1/4 of a 500mg amoxicilin pill dissolved in water with a syringe for the past 2 days i also had to feed em myself becuase he would not eat om its own. Has just been laying to one side.

His been alot more responsive in the past 24hrs. Still laying on one side. I tap the cage where he is in and opens his eyes but will and has not gotten up to eat on its own.

I pick him up, kicks around but i try to help em to walk but he is really lathergic will not stand let alone walk. Also his neck seems to tilt to one side when i try to help em walk.

Any help will be very much appriciated.

Thank you

It sounds like maybe Marek's disease. Antibiotics will not help if that's what it is. There are lots of threads on it here if you search for "Marek's". Also check out "St John's Wart" thread.

But he was perfectly fine i will look into mareks diseases. What will help him ? I massage himm today his legs and wings. Could i5 have been a heat stroke ? I found him nearly dead his doin alot better now.

I don't know why he couldn't have one...anything is possible. The Hypericum has helped our birds a lot of times, it's good for pain and/ or neurological problems. That is, sometimes it helps a lot, sometimes a little, and sometimes no. But that's the way I would go if he were mine. Good that he is doing better, but really hard to figure it out. At the very least, make sure he is eating, and hydrated, and keep up with the massage, and just see. Directions for Hypericum are on the St John's Wart thread. Marek's is weird in that it can affect chickens different ways, but, you're right, it might not be that at all. Do his wings and legs feel stiff or paralyzed, or can he just not use them?

Thanks chicknmania i will look into that thread. I put his beak in a bowl of water and seem to drink it himself.
But i have not seen him eat by himself. Me and my father have to to feed him. My father wants to put him down. If over the weekend doesnt start walkin and eating by himself. When we feed him he does flock his wings and seems to kick.

Any suggestions as to how long how we should wait until starts walkin.

Well that's your call but was he flapping and kicking all along or did he just start doing that recently? If it looks like he might be improving, I'd give him a week at least. Try mixing some applesauce or scrambled eggs or yogurt or buttermilk into his food. Crumbles are best. Chickens like soft food when they're sick.

I have to feed him myself he has been pooping just fine as well. I will mix some jogurt, aple sauce or scrambled eggs in his food. But usually i have to feed him.

I monitored him today for about an hour after i fed him and he just flocks back and forth side to side as if he wants to stand up and walk/run around but cant.

I gave him some b12 as i read somewhere her on BYC that a large dose might help em . I will keep giving him b12 for the next couple days hopefully he does get better.

Thank you all for any advice.
