2 Hens in the basement

My friend has had house pet chickens of various breeds over the past 25 years. Right now she has two serama and 2 silkies in the house. She doesn't diaper them but, cleans up as soon as she sees "it." Her house does NOT smell. They follow the dog around the house and. When my friend leaves they wait near the door. When she comes home they all get excited and greet her. The seramas like to watch tv with her at night. They are a few years old and she has never had them outside.

You might check out "people with housechickens." thread on BYC. If you had a stockade wooden fence around a small section of your house - you could let the chickens out for some fresh air - and no one would see them. I would advise a top on the fence, so they don't fly out and meet the neighbors.

Get a bag of Stsll Fresh Sweet PDZ granulated. Sprinkle on the floor in the basement with the pine shavings. The PDZ will keep the ammonia smell down as it is a natural mineral that attracts ammonia. Congratulations on your house chickens. :):)
