I know someone's already asked this but I can't find the thread to comment on that, sorry! I have 2 female ducks, a pekin and a khaki Campbell. I got them both when they were 2 weeks old and they've been inseparable since, they're now 5 months old and still inseparable, but their pool time has developed in to pulling feathers out of each other. The KC pulls feathers out of the pekin whilst she's swimming round. She holds on to her feathers and pulls them out of her back/sides. She doesn't do anything but quack when it hurts (I assume) and she sometimes locks on to her feather and doesn't pull them out but doesn't let go. The pekin then will climbs on her back and pulls feathers from her sides/neck. I keep an eye out now every time they get on the pool and tell them off each time, usually with a stick of bamboo which they don't like and wave it towards them which seperates them. Not sure why they're doing this, they're inseparable and otherwise get on very well, cuddle up together etc.

Are you certain they are females? Sounds an awful lot like a pair of drakes just feeling their hormones starting up... at 5 months that's about right in age too...

I was convinced my KC was a male, infact so much so that it's still referred to as he and him and is called Arthur! Lol! But they both lay eggs so definitely both female!

lol... well... maybe they're, ahem... frustrated that there isn't a drake around? Ducks usually mate in water, and if that's where it's happening then maybe??? Otherwise, I have no clue... sorry... :/

Oh really! Maybe then! She does sit on the other ducks back and pull feathers, and they head bob a lot in there too - isn't that a mating sign? I figured that since there were no drakes it must just be excitement lol! I didn't know they mated in water! Thanks for the help :)

Yep, they are mating. Girl ducks do it with each other when there is no male present. It is referred to as playing Hop on Top. Do you have pictures of your birds? I'm sure they are lovely! And yes, they mate in water - the head bob is the first step, to make sure they are both on board ;)

Two of my girls will still hop on top of each other even though I have two drakes. Who knows, maybe they don't like boys?

Well I never knew that! Thank you for enlightening me! Yes I have pictures (way too many lol) here are a couple :)
