So I've been reading up on ducks and I thought I'd give my ducks a treat. Went to the pet store and bought some feeder goldfish/minnows. Came home and put them in the rubbermaid container that they like to bathe/drink in. So I'm watching the girls and waiting and FINALLY one of them goes to the container. As she's sticking her head in to take a drink, she see's the fish and she JUMPS to the side and squawks! She had this look like, "What the HECK is THAT!!!" And now neither one will go towards the container! (and the fish are barely half an inch! lol) Well, looks like we have some new pets!

That is really funny! Take one of the fish out of the water and let it flop on the grass. They will get the idea then and go for it. They are such funny creatures! My ducks looove feeder fish - I've been giving it to them their whole lives because I want them to reduce the number of fish on our pond. We have about 20 koi that are keepers, but our 10 fantail goldfish reproduce like crazy! Last year we had a surplus of 60 fish we had to get rid of, but since adding the ducks this year, we didn't have any surplus - which is what we wanted :)

Aww, hehe. I really needed a smile, thank you so much. My birbs weren't sure about the fishies at first either! I had to catch 'em all back up and put them in a glass and practically shove their faces in it before they finally got the hint! But once one of them actually got one, oh boy, the rest vanished in mere seconds.

LOLOL. What breed of ducks are they?

I doubt you'll get stuck with the fish. Something similar happened when we first gave ours minnows. They first didn't seem to notice, then they started cocking their heads sideways to get a better look. Then they swished their bills around a bit testing the water or something, I guess, then they stepped back and just watched for a while. One of them finally jumped in the water and started going after the fish, then the rest jumped in and they were trying to pull fish our of each others mouths. Really fun stuff.
