I hate copperheads! If you're sensitive or squeamish don't read *semi-graphic pictures*

I think the drought in California has trickled down to the snake population. We haven't seen a snake in ages. A roadrunner has been hanging around the house & now most of our lizards are gone, too. I'm noticing a lot more squirrels & mice around our hay cubes, horse feed & chicken house. All rattlesnakes are dispatched, but I like to see the gopher & king snakes around for rodent control. They don't bother the peeps, thank heavens.

We keep the King & gopher snakes around. Good rodent control. I actually like snakes as long as they don't surprise me! I had snakes in my classroom & the kids ( boys especially) were fascinated by them. I would feed them at lunch & all the boys would come in to watch in horrified fascination!

Lol boys are funny that way, my husband an odd ball he doesnt like snakes, i am the one who saves them from him and the chickens as long as the pose no threat to my daughter they can stay and eat all the bugs they want.

I only kill if they're venomous. Copperheads are dangerous, and they happen to be really common here unfortunately. We have king snakes, black racers, brown snakes, garter snakes, and a few others I can't think of right now (been a long day) those are all non-venomous, then for venomous we have copperheads, cotton mouths, and water moccasins and I think up in the mountains there are rattlers, but we're about 4-5hrs from there. I have had to work hard to be able to identify copperheads because I do a lot of yardwork, and silly me, I use to like to try to catch "cute" baby snakes. Um, not anymore. I went to grab a baby snake one day and my son's father goes DON'T grab that, it's a copperhead. Yea, so I just generally leave snakes alone, unless it's a threat to my family or my animals.
