Emergency - duckling bit a bee/wasp

Sometimes I can't believe how much we worry about our poultry. I really hope I worried about my kids this much when they were little, but it seems to long ago to be sure.

Toxins in them didn't occur to me since so many animals eat them. My concern about them was the ducks choking on them or having them cause an obstruction. <Sigh>

Here is the promised update. Little duckie that bit the bee is doing great. At four weeks old, she and her brother are quite the handful! She is turning out to be the neatest color, she has mallard pattern, but instead of black and feathers, she has GREY and brown feathers. What the heck?? Have you ever seen that color on a duck??

I guess that's what you get when you hatch mutt ducks :) We will be putting these two outside this weekend, as we have twelve eggs set to hatch next week!

Beautiful coloring.. Hey didn't you just get married? or was that another member?

Well Congratulations .  You must have married someone with a love for ducks having 12 getting ready to hatch.. :)

Well he has a love for me, and that package includes my love for ducks! And believe it or not, my husband is the one who set them! I think I infected him :) and thank you!

Twelve eggs!! That's going to double my flock. What am I thinking???? Hahaha!

Sounds like a very nice arrangement and it is infectious.

I think you better get to building on.

I had a duckling emergency at 1.5 weeks and no vets were willing to see my duckling. The last vet I called in my area recommended a vet in a different county that handles all of the wildlife emergencies. I called them and sure enough he was willing to treat my duckling.

I would have never thought to ask for a wildlife vet on my own. Would totally recommend asking the vet or vets in your area which office works with wildlife emergencies. In our area it's a county bidso the other vets usually know how was awarded that contract.

I'm sorry your duckling is having ill effects from the bug sting. It's distressing to know they're uncomfortable.
