Is it unusual for a chicken to sit on a ducks eggs? My duck has a nest and when she leaves to eat the chicken sits in her nest for an hour or two a day.

Not from everything I've heard from chicken owners, but I don't own chickens. Some chickens just like to set on eggs. Does your chicken have a nest she can set on, or is her setting on the duck's nest causing a problem?

My little Japanese bantam will sit on anything she's got three duck eggs in her nest. And we have a frizzle and a muscovy sharing a nest right now and it is empty...the muscovy keeps squishing the Ducklings she hatches so I am using angry bird my super broody to hatch my ducklings instead.

Those are the cutest images in my mind. I'd love to see pics!

Thank you. They seem to getting along fine sharing the nest. I was a little shocked to see Edith my chicken sitting on the ducks eggs. Momma duck doesn't seem to mind

Bump! :p

Hen's will hatch duck eggs, but get a little up when their "chicks" decide to go swimming.

I have been wondering this exact thing! I have 5 baby chicks (2 are 2.5 wks old/1 is 2wks, today/2 are 1.5wks old). I have a strong suspicion the two 2.5wk olds are roosters, so I will be getting rid of them once they are 6wks. and I had been considering adding 2 Pekin ducklings but I was debating on how to begin...

A.) Get the 2 ducklings now & raise together? OR,
B.) Wait until one of my pullets are mature enough to sit on a couple of duck eggs? (Really like this idea since I won't have a roo)

If I go with B. can a hen raise ducklings until maturity without a pool??
