Dog keeps vomitting

My Rottie just turned 8. The last 3 weeks she has been vomitting on and off, nauseated, with other symptoms. Countless trips to the vet and they can't find nothing. This is alittle history. First sprayed in the face by a skunk, got her a smoked pork femur bone to help her feel better, then she stepped on a bee. On Monday she was having some stomach pains, and hiding like she does when she don't feel good. Took her to the vet. Xray was fine she was given antibotics. 2 days later she started vomitting. I thought she was allergi to the antibiotis, brought her bak to the vet. She was given acid relievers, and nausia shots. She was fine for one day, then starrted throwing up again. Someimtes whenright after she ate sometimes 10 mins later. Always after eating a ton of grass. She was passing a lot of grass too. The third visit they did blood work, neg results, and said if she dont get better with a new antibotic she would need a ultra sound. I put her on the chicken, rice, hamburger diet she held most of it down. had 3 good days, thought she was all better. I was wrong, had her ultra sound on a friday, they found nothing. They gave me a perscription dog food for digestion issues, she was back to normal for 6 days. I started to mix it in like the vet said with a new dog food that had lamb and rice, the first 2 days she was good then back to throwing up again. Today she wont eat and was panting and breathing very hard. She hide under the table. So back for the 5th time to the vet, they checked her stoll finally and nothing. I just wondered if anyone has gone through a similar situation with their pet. I am so worried about her and have to wait 2 wks to get her into the main vet. If he can't figure it out on to the specialist.

Did she eat the pork bone, I had a dog break one up and eat it before I noticed, it didn't end well, the shards messed him up, hopefully this isn't your problem, was he xrayed. So sorry, I know what you are going through and it's frustrating and emotionally wearing, sometimes they never find anything, I hope you can find some real help.

Maybe it's pancreatitis. Hope it gets better soon.

One of my dogs gets occasional bouts of stomach pains and I have to give her some baking soda and water to help her, otherwise I know things like tapeworm can cause stomach upset and vomiting and I don't think they show up in a fecal, otherwise I had dogs that had stomach trouble from eating dog food with corn in it, I feed mine grain free now and it really helps, so maybe it's her diet, just some extra thoughts.

She ate most of the pork bone, she has had xrays and an ultrasound which show nothing. I am leaning towards a food allergy at this point. She did eat some of the new food yesterday and so far so good.

Time to find another vet.

Where are you? Can you get to a university that has a vet school and have them do a complete work up? You never know what caliber of individual private vet you're getting without good solid referrals, and lots of folks refer simply on the basis of liking the vet instead of how knowledgeable and effective is the vet!

As the daughter of a veterinarian, I remember being a little girl and watching my dad work like crazy to try to save dogs that owners had let go too long. I know you've been trying, but you need a vet that will reach out for help if necessary and not let ego get in the way. Get that baby somewhere else-at the universities they have everything at their fingertips including the latest and most complete knowledge. It's a miracle this poor Rottie is still here!

I agree that a university hospital would probably be best for your dog. GI problems can really be very frustrating because they don't always have concrete evidence.

I would definitely consider doing a fecal on the dog just to rule out parasites. I would also consider testing for metabolic disorders like hyperadrenocorticism, kidney issues, and pancreatic exocrine insuffiency (they all have different tests that are not on routine blood work - except for kidney problems. Those should show up on the blood work and urinalysis). Other diagnostics you might want to consider is an endoscope procedure (with possible biopsies to rule in/out IBD) or a general abdominal exploratory surgery to see if there is anything that is not showing up on radiographs or ultrasound.

I hope you are able to find answers. It seems like you really are trying everything!

The fecal was done that came back negative. We are thinking food allergies. She has a percription food from the vet and she was perfectly fine eating that. I asked if I could put her on lamb and rice and becasue I heard that helped another dog with similar problems. I put her on that food and back to the same ole sickness again. I'm off to the vet to get more perscription food. I don't know if there is a University for vets around me. I have an appt with the main vet/ owner in 10 days. He has been doing this for years and has built a huge practice. I trust him. I just don't want to wait that long. I'm sure once she is on the perscription food she will go back to her normal self. If not I will get her back in. Josebeth, I would not sit back and let this long go on if she was sick everyday. She had a 6 day streak where she was just fine, eating, pooping, playing. Once I get her back on the perscription food, if that don't work I am going to a specialist. Thanks for all your concerns and advice.
