Where is best place to buy baby chicks this time of year

I just learned a lesson about mail order chicks (first order). Don't order from a hatchery that ships via USPS! I picked the closest hatchery I could find, thinking it'd be a short trip with 2 Day Priority but they got stuck in a warehouse, delayed a full 24 hours. Due to budget cuts, the USPS basically has no customer service so all my phone calls went nowhere. When I finally picked up the chicks, they were standing on dead ones with maggots, I guess they'd been dead for awhile and maybe left outdoors. Good news is that surviving chicks are healthy and growing!
Oh my goodness! I wish there had been a closer hatchery that carried the breeds my girls wanted. Why does the west coast not have hatcheries? I thought about ordering from Dunlap's in Idaho, but they didn't have any of the breeds we'd decided on. I lucked out when I called USPS. I got a lady named Tanya and she looked and looked and even had a manager try and help locate our order when it didn't arrive the day it was supposed to, but they couldn't find it.

Sorry you had so much loss, but I'm glad the rest are thriving!!

Where is the best place to buy baby chicks at this time of year In Kansas.....? Are hatcheries still selling and shipping baby chicks.. any Local hatchery's near Wichita KS?

If you cannot find a reputable local breeder. then you should go to the Substainable Poultry Network. spnusa.com They sell the best selective breed of birds possible. A little pricey, but you know you are getting high quality chicks. With hem it's not quantity like hatcheries, it's about quality. Then you can breed your own from a high quality breed line of chicks. And there is a location in Kansas.

I do not ship but will be hatching some EE chicks for those willing to pick up in Winter Springs, Florida 32708. I have a Lavender Ameraucana with a White EE and a Black EE. Chicks so far are black, white and Lavender. Had one black with gold hackles last sprin
