1st pair is: True Aracuana Roo rumpless X Rhode Island Red Hen PIC below - Hen pic not great- my son is holding her

2nd Pair is BANTAM COCHIN ROO X True Aracuana Hen - My daughter is holding the Hen

Will I get Olive Eggers from either of these match ups??? Is there any way to tell early on if they will lay colored eggs? Or sex?

so far we have hatched out two chicks from the Aracuana Roo Match.... and one chick from the Bantam Cochin Roo

The two Aracuana Roo babies are White - but one has a dark stripe down it's head
The one Bantam Cochin Roo chick is Black.... I have two more eggs that are just about to hatch and we shall see the coloring.

What cha' Think???

if the araucanas are truly pure then all of the cross pullets will lay colored eggs. Usually crossbred/mixes lay eggs in the green shades. Truly blue eggs are rare from crosses/mixes unless with white or very light tan eggers.

also keep the ones with pea combs. any single combs have extremely low chance of laying colored eggs.

The araucana are def. pure.. I got them from a reputable breeder. I adore them!.... I will look for the Pea Comb.. when should I notice if they have single or Pea?

You should be able to spot the difference between a single comb and a pea comb within the first week. Single combs look like a small row of spikes. Pea combs look like a small ridge.

OK. just wait until the daughters start laying.. if even a single one lays something other than green or blue..................

The comb difference is present right at hatch. Single combs are miniature form of the adults.. on peas it is either flat or a ridge.

you can also tell if a chick is rumpless or not right at hatch. Feel for tail bone, it's missing on the rumpless chicks.

I will try to take some photos in the a.m and post them for opinions on combs....

Thank you to everyone for their input... it is really appreciated!

First Three chicks are from the Bantam Cochin Roo with the Araucana Hen

My guess is that this little Black chick is a boy........

Last photo is from the Pair... RIR Hen with Araucana Roo... Thinking that he is a boy too.

They were all hatched out on Thursday-Friday and are 3-4 days old now... it doesn't appear that any of them have little spikes... but smooth ridges.

What do you think??
