I expanded my flock a little a few months ago, so I had to increase my nest boxes. I had 2 on this wall, and expanded it to 4. My question is, do you think I need a ramp for them to access the top 2, or will they be able to hop up there without knocking themselves silly on the roof ?

themselves silly on the roof ?

I can't tell how high it is but a ramp wouldn't hurt and it would also help if you had something in front of the nest boxes on the top that they could walk on like a piece of wood about 4 inches wide, that way they could go up the ramp and walk left or right and then step inside the nest. Does this make sense? Nice nest boxes!

Thanks, that was my thought originally, but I didn't want to clutter up the inside if I didn't need to. Ill have to modify the roost slightly but not a huge deal.

Edit: The lip to the second boxes is at about 34" off the floor.

Could you put it against the wall on the left side of the nest boxes, it wouldn't have to be real wide, I would think 12 inches wide and then some little pieces of wood for their feet to grab onto going crosswise.

Problem solved. While I was contemplating the changes, a few of the ladies came in and voiced their opinions. All is once again calm in the coop.

Nice job!
Might want twice as many cleats to ramp if they are slipping too much to feel safe.
Might want to put perch in front of the lower nests too...or are they already using those?
