Extremely new to raising chickens and by that I mean, the only connection I've had with them before May of this year has been buying them and/or eggs ready to eat from the grocery. We have 8 Rhode Island reds, 5 Easter eggers, and 2 silver lace wyandottes.

We live in west Tennessee and are row crop farmers. Well I say we, my husband is the farmer, while I'm just the homeschooling housewife. We have 3 children ages 16,14, and 8.

I am super excited about our new venture with our "ladies", and I want to learn as much as I can from others who live chickens as much as we have grown to love ours.

Welcome to the BYC flocK! We are glad you joined us!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. My wife and I home schooled our children as well. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Cheers.
