We bought three hens a couple days ago, we presume to be 2 sussex and 1 silkie.

Can anyone confirm that these are sussex?

Also if at all possible can you guess how old these hens may be?

They are definitely NOT sussux. The one in the bottom photo is a Red sexlink (ask red star; golden comet) and the one in the top photo looks like a hatchery quality cuckoo marans, or some sort of mix breed. I'm not sure on age, probably between 6-12 months is my best guess.

Are you in the US or the UK?

The first bird could be a Sussex mix, or a Marans mix. They both have white skin, and the Marans have feathered legs, so it's hard to narrow down. If she lays dark brown eggs, go with Marans.

the second bird is a red sex link of some type. In the states they're Red Stars, Comets, Cinnamon Queens. In the UK they're frequently Lohmann browns.
