Raccoon Encounter

Thread Starter

A raccoon got into our coop last night and there is one hen still alive but she has lost all of her upper beak. She really looks like she is on her last let, and we have her inside in a crate with towels to keep her warm and comfortable. I'm leaning toward putting her out of her misery, but I want to be sure there is absolutely no way she would survive.

Do beaks grow back? How would she eat and drink without it? One eye is closed and the other is open. I feel terrible.

I'm not sure which way I would go, is she still alive, chickens have been known to heal from some pretty bad injuries, if she appeared to be suffering after the initial day of shock I probably would cull, otherwise I would let her behavior and ability to eat and drink be my guide.
Chickens, muscovy ducks, turkeys, donkeys , goats, dogs, fish, parakeets, a parrot, and a cat.

Chickens and dogs are healing to the soul.

I brake for squirrels.

Some of my birds.
