Roosting hens laying

I have a hen that lays while on a roost. The egg ends up broken or poopy. I have 7 hens and 4 nests. How do I fix this?

I guess this has probably happened to me twice. I think cleaning out the nesting boxes and putting in fresh straw drew them back to the nesting boxes. Overall for me it was just a temporary anomaly. How long has this been going on?

Welcome to BYC!

Are they new layers?

Can you post a pic of your nests?

Great article on VENTILATION, one of THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of coop design.

Fantastic treatise to help decide how much SPACE your chickens need.

Chicken math is not just 'addition'...but also should include Division, Multiplication and especially Subtraction!!!
