Pomegranate tree full of leaf footed bugs

Anyone know if chickens will eat these things? Every pomegranate on my tree is cracked open from those nasty bugs and I am at my wits end!
 
I guess the only way to know is to given them a fruit and see what they do! I would imagine that they would - mine even eat geckos!
