Hello! My name is courtney, I'm 26, married and have two children. We're actually getting ready to move to a new house that has a chicken coop in the backyard so we figured why not give it a shot?! So basically I'm just here to get all my ducks or chicks rather in a row before actually jumping into it. Can't wait to learn a lot and chat soon!

Good morning and :welcome.

First thing first.  Make sure your new coop is cleaned from top to bottom.  If ever there was a chicken there with Marek's or Mycoplasma, it can be passed on to your chickens.  I bought one chicken this spring at a swap.  She has mycoplasma gillisepticum.  Seemed fine.  Anyway, my flock is now a closed flock because she has infected my flock.  Not trying to scare you, just prepare you.

Second is to make sure the coop is predator proof.

Third is to educate yourself as much as possible.  BYC is a great resource.  Find out about all diseases, predators, the breeds you choose, animal husbandry and more.

Then, go get your feeders, feed, and chickens/ or ducks.

Then, ENJOY!   If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.  We are here to help.

Welcome to Back Yard Chickens !

Chicken can be fun to raise !

Hello,

My name is Steven. I have been raising Chickens and other birds for about 2 years now. I will say it is really fun and addictive. I really enjoy incubating eggs and watching them grow into beautiful birds.

I am currently looking to buy or trade for some Ancona Chickens if you have some for sale please let me know.

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
